I’m the youngest of four kids in my family. When I was 14 years old I lived with my Uncle Rudy. He was the one who made sure that I was fed and had a place to stay. He was a single father of his two kids beside myself. I stayed with him off for about 2 ½ years. That was just the way it was. The rest of my family lived here in Anchorage but we all where just surviving. My Uncle Rudy always made time for me asking me how things were going, if I needed anything and how school was going. I lived with him in Muldoon but went to school across town at West High School. I caught the bus very early each morning and making it to school on time was challenging. The time that he spent with me talking about the importance of school and the importance of family has stayed with me all my life. Some of the main values he taught me are respect, LOVE, patience and just being there. Remembering those qualities though my life has made me who I am today. Therefore, my kids also know those qualities that he passed on to me when I was young.
